Seeding

Group show with Mel Carter, Peter Christenson, Stefan Gonzales, Francesca Lohmann, Tyna Onkto, Sara Osebold, and the Vestibule

Nov 4-Nov 26, PORTLAND at Well Well Projects in Portland, OR

Salt, dirt, charred fragments from house, beeswax, soy wax, turmeric, calendula, artichoke, rose, rosemary, purple asters, fruiting branches, in a hand blown glass vase.

This project started off as one thing, the idea of material being slowly consumed to uncover something within it, or just the transformation of matter into heat. After going through different forms of transformation over the past year, we had been excited to merge our lives and live in close proximity to each other for the next chapter; unfortunately due to an unforseen house fire these plans were severed. And now this work feels more like a memorial to the home that burned and everything that unfolded out of that, possibilities unrealized, things that were damaged and broken, so much careful labor lost, bureaucracy of repair.

In Seeding, six artists — Mel Carter, Peter Christenson , Stefan Gonzales , Francesca Lohmann, Tyna Onkto, Sara Osebold — travel with the Vestibule to Portland for a cross-city pollination. They will install an exhibition at Well Well Projects for the month of November while eight members of their collective exhibit in Seattle. The show includes work that is playful, mischievous, changeable, dispersed. Each work contains a hidden elements for visitors to find — and an escape room type puzzle in the curatorial statement.
